I am in a different problem. I loved a man who is a marthomite converted from a hindu nair family. He is the only guy converted from his family. His another family members are Hindus. he gave his all properties to his sister according to marthoma rules.

now we are in love. but he cannot marry me. he will be banned from his sabha. I am ready to convert my religion. I am believing in Christianity also. what is the solution for this problem? My boyfriend says now a days it is very difficult to convert to marthomite. Jesus christ teached how to love people. but what is the rules are following the marthoma sabha? -Deepika

Hello Deepika,

You know your situation best so do that you feel most logical and good for you. It’s your life and thus it should be your decision. In the end, if it is a wrong decision, it is YOU to pay the price for your mistake. We are not hear to decide what is good for you but we will help make you think critically for your situation.

Easiest thing you is to first convert to Marthomite and marry him. After that it is no more an interfaith marriage and enjoy your within-faith married life. In case later you don’t like all restrictions being imposed by the marthomite church, get divorced and start a new life from there.

The other things we will tell you now is applicable only if you are intelligent and a critical thinker. You said, “I am believing in Christianity”, what this means? Have you read the Bible? Are you okay teaching your children that all Hindus including Mahatma Gandhi and all Muslims are going to hell on the Judgement Day because they are not baptized?

You said and we agree 100% that “Jesus christ teached how to love people”. We love Jesus messages but not what churches are teaching today. Why not follow Jesus and not the church?

Another thing you have to understand is the difference between a pluralist (who says “I am believing in Christianity also“; we assume that “also” meaning Hinduism and Christianity) and exclusivism (you will be told that you are no more a Hindu, cannot wear bindi on your head, cannot enter Hindu temple ever, cannot eat Hindu prasad from God, cannot have kids names Hindu or Dharmic, you have to believe that Hindus pray to idols while Christianity’s two pieces of woods are not idols, only Jesus saves not krishna, etc). Are your parents going to be happy if you covert to Christianity? For your boy friend what is most important? … is that you or his Marthomite church? Are you ready to give up Hinduism 100.00% (not even celebrate Holi, Diwali or any other festival ever). Read Nusrat who is now happy being 100% Muslim, are you ready for such sacrifices for your (one way) love? Will it never bother you this in-equality deal? After reading all, please get back to us. Best wishes. -Admin.
