Im Sikh and I think you should respect your parents desicision and not marry out of faith it won’t work because I married a Christian women and we fight every day and night my children are not religious. Expect for one who is in love with the devil thats how bad things are she tryed to stab me once but I’m to big so had to control him. Me and my wife are separated now I’m re-married to a Sikh lady now she is the love of my life. The regret I have is that she is not the mother of my children life would been lovely if I saw her first. Don’t make the same mistake I did it will only lead to pain and suffering for you. -G Singh

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

    Dear G Singh

I am very sorry that your previous relationship did not work out. In a perfect world every relationship will last forever but in reality that is not always the case. All I can say is that the reason my marriage is strong is because I volunteered to convert to my wife’s religion which is Sikhism.

There are certain factors that I believe that made my transition to become a full fledged Amritdhari Sikh possible as a result of marrying a Sikh woman

    1) Growing up in Foster Care in Canada and having lost contact with my biological family and having my wife’s family become my surrogate family helped. Since my biological family is not around threatening to disown me for becoming a Sikh, that made the transition much easier.

    2) Not only I volunteered to accept Sikhism but I also learned to speak Punjabi fluently and give up my Canadian citizenship in favour of Indian citizenship to prove to my wife’s parents that I am willing to make sacrifices in order to be with her. This paved the way not only not only for her family’s acceptance of me but also their love and loyalty.

    3) If my wife’s family was not very strictly religious Sikhs, I highly doubt that I would have practiced the faith with such devotion. It was my father in Law who always made sure that I woke early to recite the banis. It was my mother-in law who made sure that I always had a vegetarian diet, plus it was my father in law who always wore the 5k’s everyday and it is both my parents in-law who make sure that I go with them and my wife to the Gurdwara everyday.

    4) Since my wife and her parents are originally from Afghanistan, the caste system did not play a role in whom they wanted their daughter to marry as long as he is an Amritdhari Sikh.
