I was just curious to know if you got your dilemma resolved as I am going through a similar situation. I am an orthodox/Jacobite christian wanting to marry a Hindu girl. Wanted to know if we can have a church wedding without her converting.

Any pointers will help. -JJ

Want to have a win win situation here. We are comfortable without either of us converting. The question that also arises is if we get married as per the special marriage act, will the church oust me? Can I continue to be a Christian as I always was? –JJ

Found Islam ,Found Tranquility in life and Purnima becomes Maryam

Iam a recent convert to Islam from hinduism which I never follower or practicised ,I developed interest in Islam from my graduation days during collage ,than reading quran ,hadith and sufism had a great positive effect on my mind I found Islam enchanting and a faith which I can follow , besides that other books by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, bayana of Tareeq jamil .As time progressed I found more closer myself to Islam I started keeping fasting during Ramadan (ofcourse hidden from friends and family) , as time progressed in my life Islam became an integral part of my life despite being a non muslim I started to think myself as muslim ..I learnt Wudu ,Salah ,Wore Hijab and abaya ,Interacted with Muslim ,learnt many things from them and they were very helpful and quick to respond my queries which helped me immensly in my journey towards Islam and in the mean time my graduation was over I got a good job

Didn’t realised when Purnima became Maryam ..I accepted Islam 15 days ago at hyderabad in an Islamic center with help of a muslim friend during my official trip and had a great experience living as muslimah for couple of days ..Now Iam looking forward to come out to parents about my reversion to Islam and once they approve , I change my official status as Muslim

indeed it has been a great journey last 6 years and looking ahead challanges ahead in life which may come because of my transformation ..thanks to Allah for all this and I have reading this blog for some time and challanges with couples in inter religious marriage ..

May Allah bless us all ..Ameen

    Hi JJ,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Let us know how is your life with her so far since you met her? If God promises you the same life between two of you till you last day, would you be happy? The reason you two had great time is because you loved each other unconditionally. For you two, so far, pleasing each other was the top priority. Tell us why you wish to screw this beautiful love for others? If you try to please OTHERS and make it as your top priority (like your two sets of parents, communities, church and mandir, your friends, etc) soon you will find out that your life is in hell. We highly recommend you do that is rational and logical, and not just to please others.

Now assume Jesus is right in front of you and say to you, “JJ, I have made you smart and wish you use your own brain in this situation,” what would you do?

A short answer to your question,… of course, yes, the church will want her, her mother, her father and all her relatives to convert to Christianity. Why not?

Likewise, her Hindu priest want you and your family to be 100% Hindu and 0% Christian, would you do that? Tell us what YOU want to do, and we will discuss about others later.

Why not have liberty and freedom to follow each other’s faith without worrying about religions institutions (including hers)?

Why not follow progressive teachings of Jesus? Why to get locked into church, that is not progressive thinking (read).

Why impose your faith on someone? Is she willing to convert to Christianity (100%) and ready to give up 100% her faith, her childhood good memories, fun of wearing sari and bindi, parental wishes, and more? Even she agrees to convert today out of love with you, will not she regret later in her life? Instead, why not to let her be what you found her on the first day. Marry her the way you found her and have children. If sometimes in life, she wishes to be a Christian, so be it, but that is her wish. If you find out the Hinduism has value in it, so be it, go for it. Why not have choices open and available for both of you? Why to lock faith now? Jesus did not wanted to be locked into his Jewish faith, why you?

On “will the church oust me? Can I continue to be a Christian as I always was?” you have to decide if you are Jesus believer or a church believer. You know that there are 36000 denominations of Christianity. Mormon will not accept baptism of Catholic, Jehovah, Pentecostal and vise versa. Why not be a progressive thinker like Jesus and keep at distance from the church? You will ALWAYs be a Christian and Jesus believer. If one church oust you, find another one. Simple!
